Hip surgery is serious business, but sometimes you just need to have a great almost pee your pants laugh once in a while. One of those moments was when I was sitting in the doctor’s office with my husband waiting for one of my pre-op appointments. I was very nervous to see the results of a 3D CT Scan that could dictate my treatment.
My husband was trying to occupy my mind and he showed me a Facebook video of an insane sports car with a woman who was navigating all the high-tech features of the car. I had no clue what kind of car it was. My classification was that it was red and a two-door sports car.
My response to the video was, “It’s a nice car, but I don’t see what’s funny.”
“What do you mean, you don’t see what’s funny? It’s not supposed to be funny” he said. “Ummm…okay, but what does the ‘A’ mean? Laughing My Butt Off, but what does the ‘A’ stand for in front of the ‘M’?” He looked at me and started laughing hysterically. He said, “It’s LAMBO short for Lamborghini”. It was then that I realized I had a clueless moment, but that laughter had quickly healed my anxiety.
So, yes, hope is great medicine, but laughter “is the tangible evidence of hope”! (Michael Jr.) Go watch a funny movie or find a joke that speaks to you and tell it. You may get some rolled eyes and even some laughs, but who cares if it’s really funny as long as it makes you laugh.
